Wambora orders arrest for anyone transporting coffee from Embu County

Embu Governor Martin Wambora has instructed the police to arrest anyone who will be found transporting coffee from Embu County to other parts of the country in a bid to avoid exploitation of farmers by middlemen.

Speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony for the tarmacking of the 12 kilometer Embu-Kibugu road, Wambora clarified that he had issued the circular in order to prevent Embu farmers from selling their coffee at cheap prices, noting that the county government had bought machines to process the coffee.

“I have done a circular and told the police to arrest them all, there is no coffee which will leave Embu. We have bought machines from Brazil to process coffee and we will release Sh10 million to install all the facilities needed,” he said, adding that those selling their coffee to outside traders are sabotaging his project.

Wambora further stated that construction of the coffee factory at Kavutiri in Embu East was complete and that it was ready for use.

The Governor also intensified attacks on his political opponents saying that he would not entertain them, by allowing them to continue pulling him behind so that he could not achieve his development road map as election nears.

“What is killing Embu is not crime or any other vice but political instability and politicians are the perpetrators, but I am going to fight them from all angles to ensure the people of Embu get the much needed development,” he said.

Wambora further stressed that the 12 Kilometer road would provide the farmers with a link to the market as it connects the three tea factories with the Embu-Nairobi highway.

He noted that the road, which will be completed in the next six months, will cost Sh350 million and will be done using modern technology that uses Sh31 million per kilometer of tarmac.
