Wambora’s Impeachment Letter Submitted to Senate

This was after the Speaker of the County Assembly submitted the impeachment letter to the Senate.

This is according to the County Government Act 2012 which requires that the impeachment letter be submitted within two days

The Embu County Assembly impeached Wambora after garnering the requisite 22 out of 33 votes.

The accusations levelled against the Governor included: gross violation of the Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2005, the Public Finance Management Act 2012, the County Governments Act 2012, and the Kenyan Constitution, all related to abuse of office.

The motion was passed on Tuesday, making Embu the first county to impeach its Governor and Deputy Governor.

The motion was passed despite a court order barring them from debating the motion until February 5.

The Speaker of the Senate Ekwe Ethuro now has seven days to convene a meeting of the Senate to hear the alleged charges against the Governor.

The fate of the Governor now lies in the hands of the Senate.
