War on illicit brew now in supermarkets

The war on illicit brews in Kiambu continued on Monday evening but this time it was directed to local supermarkets in the town which have been stocking wines and spirits.

Members of Provincial administration led by chiefs and their assistants raided the shops and confiscated wines that were on shelves.

This comes even as Kiambu Governor William Kabogo continues to dispute claims that he had authorized the stocking of brews in bars when he met bar owners last week.

Kabogo maintains he had suspended all licenses and that no one will be allowed to operate until they are re-examined.

Meanwhile, Kiambu Women Representative Annah Nyokabi has called for the closure of molasses plants saying that most of the methanol is reported to have been transported from the area.
