Warring Communities Agree To Bury The Hatchet

The four, Turkana of Kenya, Karamojong of Uganda, Nyangatom of Ethiopia and Toposa of South Sudan gathered at Lokiriama primary school in Loima sub-county to mark the ‘World International Peace Day’.

Turkana County Governor Josephat Nanok said that dialogue should be initiated to avoid loss of lives through cattle rustling.

Peter Lokeris, State Minister of Uganda said that the Kenyan government should disarm all Pokots for lasting peace to prevail in the region.

He claimed that the community has been carrying out raids to Uganda, an issue that should be addressed.

Deputy governor of Kenya Peter Lokoel told leaders speaking there that all communities should be disarmed.

Lokiriama Peace Accord dates back to the year 1973 when there was war between Kenya and Uganda's Karamojong who fought and killed each other due to pasture.

More than 1,000 people were killed prior to the peace accord.

More than 500 guns and rounds of ammunition together with bows and arrows were buried belonging to the warring communities.
