Warring communities along Mosop-Malava border unite in sports

It is with this in mind that leaders from Nandi and Kakamega Counties organised a peace initiative, through sports, dubbed Kamung’ei Peace Race in a bid to end animosity between the two communities.

The event attracted several participants from across the two communities within the border.

The residents expressed their happiness in taking part in such events aimed at bringing peace in the area, adding that there should be more of such initiatives to promote peace in the area.

The deal is seen as a great advancement in unlocking the peace stalemate caused by border disputes in the recent past within the two counties.

MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH

Border disputes have become a matter of life and death and threaten to destabilise the county.

Mosop Member of Parliament Stephen Bitok, who was the organiser of the event, said the CDF kitty will give out Sh500,000 towards the construction of a police post to bolster security, as he urged his Malava counterpart to do the same in his constituency.

Nandi County Women Representative Zipporah Kering lauded the plan, adding that the two communities will co-exist and spur development through sports and trade.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chairman in the Parliamentary Education Committee Julius Melly, who is also Tindiret member of Parliament, said that he will push for the introduction of hardship allowances for teachers teaching in the area.
