Water crisis bites in Bondo

Residents of sakwa Ward in Bondo,Siaya County are calling on their county government to promptly intervene following acute water shortage in the region.

As Kenyans from other counties are celebrating their New Year in style, Bondo residents have had less to smile about since May this year, due to the prolonged drought that hit the region.

According to a village elder from Gombe Village, Mr. Pentax Omondi Ouma, Bondo residents are forced to travel long distances in search of water a situation that has made some residents to resort to skipping bath for days as part of their water rationing strategy.

Speaking to Citizen Digital , the men complained that even when they marry wives from other regions, the wives run away after days of hardship.

The residents lauded the former Regional Development Permanent Secretary Eng. Carey Orege for hiring a water boozer to supply water within the ward.

Speaking during the distribution the PS through his personal assistant Mr. David Oyola stated that they are seeking to ensure they reach out to all affected areas across the county.

He challenged Siaya County government to construct more water pans in the drought prone region.

“The money that is usually wasted on some unnecessary projects can be diverted into construction of water pans and boreholes to save the residents from the perennial suffering” he said.

Bondo residents are now calling on their county government to come up with a more permanent solution to the water crisis.
