Wavinya Ndeti hits out at Raila Odinga over Kamba women statement in Kibra

Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti has lashed out at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga over remarks he made about women from the Kamba community.

Odinga, who was speaking in Kibra during a rally to drum support for Imran Okoth over the weekend, referred to the Kamba women in jest.

Wakamba ni waaminifu na hao ni kama kina mama, wakisema watakupatia, watakupatia, ” he said amid cheers from the crowd.

The remarks did not rub off well with Ndeti who criticized ‘Baba’ on her Twitter account.

According to  the former Kathiani MP, the Kamba community has been loyal to Odinga even supporting him during the last two elections when he vied as President with Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.

She did not expressly state why she felt Odinga had disrespected Kamba women, only saying:

“Baba I’m very disappointed with your statement. Kambas are patient and loyal but we will not be taken for granted under any circumstance. We supported you for 10 years and you should respect my community.”

Leaders from the former MPs community who were present during Odinga’s rally in Kibra however did not take issue with Odinga’s statement.

They include Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni).

The Kibra by-elections are slated for November 7, 2019.
