Wavinya Ndeti wants deal with Wiper on Machakos governor race

Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader Wavinya Ndeti is seeking a deal with Wiper party that would grant her the party’s support in her bid to unseat Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Speaking during the commemoration of 40 days since the death of her husband Dolamu Henry Oduwole, Ms Ndeti called on Wiper party to support her bid as she runs in the Machakos governorship race.

In the deal, Wavinya voiced her support for Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama’s re-election bid and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the presidency in exchange for their support of her candidature.

Wavinya has however ruled out the possibility of merging her party with Wiper, noting that they would field candidates in all other posts in the county except the Senate and president’s seats.

The former Kathiani MP, who lost the 2013 elections to Mutua by over 168,000 votes, further unveiled former legal adviser to Governor Mutua, Boniface Kabaka, as her running mate.

Kabaka vied for Machakos Senate seat in 2013 but lost to Muthama.

On his part, Boniface kabaka said that he was ready to work with Wavinya Ndeti and added that having worked in Machakos he knows the rot in the county and was willing to be part of cleaning it.

Reports, however, indicate that there is a plan within Wiper to sponsor Machakos Deputy Governor Benard Kiala to run for the seat as the party seeks to defeat their one-time loyal member, Governor Mutua.

Mutua fell out with Wiper party after he openly declared that he would support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General Election, a situation that worsened after the formation of his Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.

Mutua has praised President Kenyatta for apparently instituting development in Machakos and the larger Ukambani region, despite the region having widely voted for CORD.
