We are focused on transforming lives of youth, Ruto says

Deputy President William Ruto has reiterated government’s commitment to improve the livelihood of youth in the country.

Addressing a congregation at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Kianyaga Parish in Kirinyaga County after a Sunday sermon, the Deputy President said the government was focused on transforming the lives of its youth across the country.

“Young people of our nation are the greatest resource to use in the transformation of the country,” said Mr Ruto.

The deputy president said that the government will continue to equip the youth with skills through the National Youth Service (NYS), adding that more funds have been allocated to the department to enroll more youth.

“Nothing will stop our agenda of organising the youth, developing their skills and engaging them in the NYS because they are catalysts for the development of this country,” said Ruto.

He further noted that the government is set to allocate Sh100 million to establish and equip technical institutes in each constituency to help cater for the training needs of the youth.

On development maters, the deputy president said the government has set aside Sh12billion to accelerate the construction of Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga County to help the residents access water for domestic and irrigation purposes.

He added that another Sh2billion has been allocated for compensation of families that were displaced to pave way for the construction of the dam.

The deputy president was accompanied by Governor Joseph Ndathi (Kirinyaga) and MPs Njogu Barua (Gichugi), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni), Karani Wachira (Laikipia West), Stephen Ngare (Ndia), Gitari Gichogi (Kirinyaga Central and Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East).
