We are not in a hurry to leave power – Uhuru tells Raila

President Uhuru Kenyatta has told off the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) over the constant attack on Jubilee Party following its launch on Saturday, September 10.

Speaking during the late William Ole Ntimama’s burial ceremony in Narok, President Kenyatta noted that while he is not one to politic at a funeral, ‘some things should not go unanswered’.

“Raila Odinga, he is my brother, but leave Jubilee alone. Jubilee doesn’t have two or three hands. We have one hand; we know where we are going. Put your house in order and let us meet at the ballot. Leave my house of Jubilee alone,” President Kenyatta told Odinga.

“Yours is to look for votes, we are in power and we are not in a hurry to leave.”

Kenyatta also stated that while there were calls for unity, there should be development as well.

“Saying there should be unity without development is stupid. We must have development. There is no one who wants to live in poverty. We want to remove people from poverty. Our unity is for development.”

The Head of State lauded Ntimama as a man who had no problem with working with people regardless of what their position was.

“For many years, I knew mzee. He has not changed. When he was in government, he had no problem with the opposition and when he was in the opposition, he had no problem working with the government. We must talk with one another and not at one another. Yes, there is trouble, but the solutions is for people to sit and talk,” he added.

“Ntimama was a brave man, one who fought for the rights of others, who did not like corruption and had no issues with anyone but he fought for the rights of his people. He had no hatred and always brought people together. Ours is to respect his legacy.”

The President revealed that before his death, he and Ntimama met to discuss and find solutions to Mau.

“What Mzee said we should do is what we shall do. I can tell you that there is a solution to Mau. A solution in a way that is peaceful. All communities are ours.”
