Deputy Governors have allayed reports that they are in competition with governors in the execution of duties in county governments.

Speaking during a media consultative breakfast on Tuesday, the forum’s secretary general Dorothy Nditi said the working relationships between the two offices are cordial, rooted on well-coordinated and constant communication between governor’s and their deputies.

“There is no competition between governors and their deputies. The two complement each other to enhance cohesion and service delivery in counties,” she said.

Nditi, who is also the deputy governor of Embu, however warned governors against thinking ill of their deputies since their roles are co-dependent.

She stated that there are gains made in devolution adding that pioneers of the new system of governance, which came into effect with the passing of the new Constitution, must go down in history as having set a firm foundation for future governments.

“We have promised to compliment what the governors are doing and thus should not be seen as if we are in competition with them,” she added.

Nditi also raised concerns over the slow pace of voter registration in Embu County particularly the lower parts of Makima and Mwea, saying residents must be given a chance to decide who their leaders will be in 2017.

She further said that most youth in the area have not received their Identity cards even after attaining the required age of 18 years pointing out at a probable breakdown in the issuance of the cards.

She also challenged leaders in Embu to preach unity among the communities living in the county to promote peaceful coexistence.
