We are not on strike, Kuppet says

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has maintained that they are not on strike as earlier on speculated by a section of their colleagues.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu today, KUPPET’S national chair Omboko Milemba said they are currently not on strike as they are not subscribing to the recently formed trade union dubbed the Trades Union Congress Kenya (TUC-Kenya).

Milemba added that the union members are on duty and will not be a party to any strike in this country as they are all allied to COTU and not Trades Union Congress Kenya TUC-Kenya.

Milemba further urged their members to stay put until when the whistle is blown for a genuine strike and at the right time.

He however asserted that they will embark on a serious nationwide strike should their court mandated pay hike not be effected.

Milemba urged TSC to respect the court’s decision instead of meddling with it at the expense of teachers in this country.

On NHIF row, Milemba said they will not be a party to the recently introduced teacher medical scheme AON Minuet but will instead consult with the Government on how best NHIF can be made effective.

He says they will not allow the Government to continue increasing deductions made on teachers’ pay slips in the name of bettering their health services.

This comes at a time when their KNUT counterparts are threatening to take to the streets in castigating the increase in deductions in NHIF scheme that was recently arrived at by the Government.
