We are ready for 2017, ODM tells Jubilee

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has exuded confidence of winning the 2017 General Election.

Addressing party supporters at Masinde Muliro in Mathare on Sunday, ODM deputy party leader, Hassan Joho, said that the party will continue with their push to ensure party leader Raila Odinga wins the 2017 presidential election.

“We are hopeful that our party leader Raila Odinga will win the 2017 elections before we also enter the race for the 2022 presidential poll,” said Joho.

ODM leaders also faulted Jubilee over apparent rise in corruption and called on Kenyans to effect changes in the country’s leadership using their votes.

Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga accused Jubilee of tolerating corruption saying the proverbial “meat in the mouth” phrase is reflective of the wanton corruption that has benefitted a few individuals within the Jubilee Administration at the expense of other Kenyans.

Her remarks were a response to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech at the funeral service of the late William Ntimama last week.

Speaking at the service, President Kenyatta had told off ODM over constant criticism of the Jubilee Administration saying they will continue eating “meat” as ODM salivates.

“I would like to tell my friend Raila Odinga to keep off Jubilee affairs. Kumeza mate sio kula nyama, endeleeni kumeza mate lakini nyama tutakula (…they will continue salivating as we feast on meat).”

In a rejoinder Wanga said: “The meat that Jubilee says they are eating is proceeds from all corrupt engagements that have been witnessed during its tenure including NYS, Youth Fund, SGR scandals among others.”

Early Sunday, ODM leaders led by Joho and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero had traversed Nairobi urging their supporters to attend the rally.

Kidero in his address, urged Kenyans to register in large numbers and vote for Raila Odinga in the 2017 General Election.

Ugly scenes were however witnessed after the rally as an angry mob torched a pickup truck, whose driver was accused of knocking down one of the supporters.

Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the mob.
