We cant wait until 2022, Rift Valley Senators tell Ruto

Three Senators from Rift Valley have rubbished plans by Deputy President William Ruto to hold off his presidential ambitions until 2022 after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s last term.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo and nominated Senator Zipporah Kittony said those promising the region’s support to President Uhuru Kenyatta are doing so for their own selfish gain, adding that they will push through with their quest to clinch the presidential seat in 2017.

Speaking in Tiaty on Saturday, the senators who are affiliated to KANU, an ally-turned foe of the Jubilee Coalition, said a longer wait for presidency means they will have to wait long to realize political and development growth in the area.

DP Ruto has declared in several public rallies that he would shelf his presidential ambitions and support President Kenyatta in 2017 as he seeks reelection.

In line with this, DP Ruto has also been on the forefront in pushing for the dissolution of the Jubilee Coalition affiliate parties in favour of one party; Jubilee Party, a move that has caused disintegration within United Republic Party (URP) leading to the exit of some of its members among them Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.

His stand has however been faulted by a section of his members, with many feeling they should produce a president in the next elections.

Already, reports indicate that Gideon Moi may be forwarded as the ideal candidate in the next elections, though there is also the possibility that the party may team up with one of the ‘three horses’  Jubilee, CORD and Musalia Mudavadi’s  Amani National Congress in the next polls.
