We don’t regret attacking Judiciary, Jubilee leaders

A section of Jubilee Party leaders have defended its leadership over a recent spat with the Judiciary after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto accused the court system of being compromised by the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA).

President Kenyatta and his deputy on Sunday, July 9 cautioned the Judiciary not to aid the opposition to scuttle the electoral process.

The two leaders said the courts were increasingly getting entangled in the attempts by NASA to delay the August 8 polls to their favor.

Led by the National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi, Water Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa, and West Pokot Governor, Simon Kachapin, the Jubilee leaders remained adamant that the ruling coalition now senses mischief in a couple of court rulings that technically derail the electoral process.

“Kenyans are ready to cast their votes on August 8, but the recent rulings by the courts have shown that they are aiding NASA to stop IEBC from conducting the elections. We as Jubilee will not allow that to happen and have to speak,” said Mr. Muturi.

However, CS Wamalwa criticized the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over what he termed as “creating unnecessary tension by grouping regions as hot spots of violence.”

According to the CS, Kenyans have learnt from previous mistakes and are not ready for election violence.

“NCIC should stop being prophets of doom. All Kenyans, including those of West Pokot County, will maintain peace before, during and after the polls. NCIC should stop preaching the possibility of poll violence,” said Mr. Wamalwa.

Nevertheless, Governor Kachapin faulted NASA for what he termed as ‘creating consistence impediments to election processes’ by presenting cases against the electoral body.

The leaders were speaking on Monday, July 10 during the launch of Governor Kachapin’s Manifesto in quest to retain his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket in the coming August polls.
