We fear for our lives, NASA leaders speak out after Kalonzo home attack

National Super Alliance leaders say they fear for their lives following the Tuesday night attack on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s home in Karen, Nairobi.

Speaking at Musyoka’s Karen Home Wednesday morning, NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula termed the attack as an act of intimidation, after the government allegedly withdrew the opposition leaders’ security detail.

“We want all Kenyans to know that the leadership on NASA is thoroughly exposed because we have no security and if this is what the State wants to do to bring us to what they think are our knees… Our knees will not bend,” he said.

The NASA co-principal condemned the attack saying they would hold the government responsible for any harm that will befall any of their leaders.

“This armed attack comes on the heels of security withdraw for all opposition leaders starting with Raila, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and myself. We will hold the state squarely responsible if any harm is done to Kalonzo or any of our leaders or any Kenyan,” said Wetangula.

“We regrettably urge the state that protecting leaders is not a priviledge it is a right. Protecting Kenyans is not a priviledge is it a legitimate right.”

He said despite the alleged intimidation, the NASA leaders will not be cowed in their quest to push for reforms in the country.

“If the intention of this attack is to frighten, cow or intimidate us, we are beyond all that. If the intention is to take away our lives there will be many more to fight the battle we are fighting,” added Wetangula.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana regretted the attack, saying: “As chair of Wiper Party I thank God for preserving the lives of Kalonzo and his family. Kalonzo will continue working with his colleagues to better this country”.

Meanwhile, police have launched investigations into alleged gunfire outside the home of Mr. Musyoka.

It is alleged that the incident happened at Kalonzo’s Karen home at dawn though no injuries were reported.

Further reports indicate that the unknown assailants fired in the air, before speeding off.

Karen OCPD Cunningham Suiyanka said police will issue a comprehensive statement once investigations are complete.
