We have received voter bribery claims- IEBC

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed receiving complaints of voter bribery in the Malindi by election campaigns involving both the ruling Jubilee coalition and the opposition CORD coalition.

IEBC Chairman Isaack Hassan says they are still investigating the claims but so far no one has provided evidence on the claims.

During a media briefing Saturday morning, Hassan said they are also investigating a reported case of harassment of an IEBC official by a CID officer adding that the matter has already been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police.

Speaking in Malindi on the electoral body’s preparations for the Monday by election, the IEBC Chair assured that all is set for the by election.

According to the IEBC, distribution of ballot papers will start Sunday March 6th March at the tallying centre at Barani secondary school in Malindi.

There are 100 polling stations in Malindi.

Results of the by-election will be announced between March 7th and 8th.
