We must not have winners and losers, DP Ruto insists on BBI

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday once more came out to air his opinions on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill saying those with divergent views must not be shut out of the process.

DP Ruto, speaking in Nakuru during the burial of Bahati MP Kimani Nginjiri’s mother, said there must not be winners and losers in the process and that a win-win situation is possible to achieve.

The DP alleged of a section of BBI proponents using the process to plant seeds of hatred in the souls of Kenyans, hence asking them to be wary of such characters.

“We must not have winners and losers, we can fashion a win-win. Tunataka mambo watu wote wakubaliane, na inawezekana, tusiskume mtu kwa sababu ako na maoni tofauti, that’s not the way to go forward. Kuna watu katika hii mambo ya BBI wanatafuta sana vile ya kugawanyisha watu, tutafute mahali ya sisi sote kutembea pamoja,” he said.

“The peace we enjoy today in Kenya is not peace that was brought by the government or the police, this is peace that was fashioned by us the people, and it is us that must maintain it.”

DP Ruto further alleged that some criminal investigations being carried out by relevant authorities in the country are politically motivated and driven.

He hence urged public officials to avoid misusing their offices and instead serve the country within the confines of their powers.

“The abuse of criminal investigation targeting people because of their tribe or political affiliation is the wrong thing to do, but it is worse if criminal investigations are used to incite ethnic hate and tribalism in our nation,” he stated.

“I want to ask public officers charged with the responsibility of protecting our country not to use those offices for the wrong things; you’re taking our country backwards, you will not succeed, and we will pray against you.”

The Jubilee deputy party leader also asked Kenyans to reject political aspirants who have no vision or mission for the country come the electioneering period.
