We Must Unite in War Against Corruption, Kenyatta says

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to unite in the war against corruption.

Speaking during the 52nd Madaraka Day celebrations, President Kenyatta said all Kenyans should join the government in fighting corruption.

“Unless we fight corruption together, unless every Kenyan joins my government in the war on graft, then we will not win it,” he said.

He further stated that the government has put in place a framework to ensure integrity and prevent corruption in public service.

“By digitising public records and the migration of public information and service online will bring us closer to an administration of integrity, free of corruption.”

ACCOUNTABILITY

President Kenyatta also pointed out that the government has launched action to bring accountability to various allegations of corruption involving government officials.

In what appears to be a jab at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the president said bodies launched to fight corruption should also maintain integrity.

“The institutions that help us fight corruption can themselves become corrupt,” he said.

“While my government recognises all the institutions which fight the war against corruption with us, we expect them to maintain high standards of integrity.”

The ceremony, held at Nyayo Stadium, was attended by among others Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, various ambassadors and other dignitaries.
