We owe you nothing, ODM dismisses Raila-Kalonzo secret 2022 pact

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has strongly dismissed an alleged secret 2022 pact between its party leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka.

This comes after Kalonzo, in an interview published by the Sunday Nation, said he had signed an agreement with Raila regarding the next General Elections; a deal he said is only between the two of them and totally excludes NASA co-principals Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.

ODM has since however rubbished the statement saying no such deal exists, unless only “in Kalonzo’s wild dreams.”

“We know that Kalonzo tried to push Raila to commit to support him in 2022 as part of the NASA pact and as a party, we flatly rejected that demand. The so-called deal therefore only exists in Kalonzo’s wild dreams,” read a statement to newsrooms by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

“We are however not surprised that Kalonzo is making those claims. It is typical of Mr Kalonzo’s character as a two faced treacherous character who is always whining while seeking to reap where he did not sow. It is a continuation of his ‘kati kati’ brand of politics.”

Sifuna, in the strongly-worded statement released on Sunday, reiterated the party’s stance that Kalonzo alongside Mudavadi and Wetangula led to NASA’s collapse after they skipped the mock swearing in ceremony of the coalition’s presidential candidate.

He also alleged that, for a whole year after 2017 elections, ODM single-handedly financed the NASA Secretariat including paying of staff salaries saying Wiper, ANC and Ford-Kenya refused to submit the Ksh.10,000 monthly payment of their elected leaders.

Hence, according to Sifuna, Kalonzo sought a coalition agreement with the Jubilee Party not because of any supposed betrayal by ODM but becase he allegedly feels threatened by political leaders fast gaining support in his Kamba backyard namely Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Prof. Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Dr. Alfred Mutua (Machakos).

“Kalonzo is a known traitor, currently undermining governors Ngilu, Mutua and Kibwana who won their seats against his wishes,” added the ODM SG.

“It is his politics of slyness, cowardice and self aggrandisement that has made him lose Johnson Muthama and it is that brand of politics that is pushing him to Jubilee despite the fact that his arrival will add absolutely no value to Jubilee.”

Sifuna further stated: “As a party, we challenge Kalonzo to man up, stop whining and be able to stand up for something for once. ODM and its leader Raila Odinga owe Kalonzo nothing. As a party, we have moved on and we are not planning our politics around Kalonzo.”

ODM also sought to warn any future political partners of Kalonzo to be wary of misery, blackmail and extortion.

“You will be expected to be a babysitter and sponsor to someone who will offer nothing in return in a toxic one way parasitic relationship,” read the statement.
