We Support War on Corruption, Deputy Governors

Speaking in a press briefing on the sidelines of the Second Devolution Conference in Kisumu, the forum chairperson and Narok Deputy Governor Evelyn Aruwasa said that they will support the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and other investigative bodies as they fight corruption.

Aruwasa said many challenges in the county, including insecurity, are directly linked to corruption adding that if not addressed, the vice will 'take the country to the dogs’.

“We have to find ways of getting rid of corruption in our government systems,” she said.

The deputy governors, however, opposed calls for governors to step aside noting that there are ways of dealing with the issue.

Empowering counties to fight terrorism

“Asking governors to step aside will be in contravention of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. We should find other ways of dealing with the situation,” said Aruwasa.

She also asked the government to include counties in the fight against terrorism stating that with proper coordination and sharing of intelligence insecurity will be curbed.

Kisii deputy governor and forum secretary Joash Maangi said there is need to adhere to the law when dealing with governors accused of corruption.

“The law is clear on how elected officials should step aside. The same law must be followed when dealing with the situation,” he said.

Other deputy governors present at the conference who are also members of the forum include Mary Kibuka (Taita Taveta), Jonathan Mueke (Nairobi), Fatuma Mohamed Achani (Kwale), Wilson Ouma (Siaya), Kizito Wangalwa (Busia) and Paul Ndiati (Kajiado) just to name a few.
