We want our money, youths tell gov Rasanga

A section of youths from Alego/Usonga constituency have demanded to be told how the Ksh1 million that was allocated to them by the county government in the financial year 2015/2016 was spent.

Led by members of Mur-Malanga boda boda youth group, the youths complained that two years after the funds were set aside to enhance their socio-economic activities, none of them has received a shilling.

According to the group’s secretary Gabriel Osungo, the Ksh1 million was supposed to benefit four youth groups by providing material support and to date, they have not heard anything concerning the whereabouts of that money.

The youths, who were speaking to Radio Ramogi at Malanga trading center, revealed that their group was supposed to get tents and chairs worth Ksh250,000.

Their chairman, Jared Owuor, said they wrote a proposal but nothing has been forthcoming, despite having previously been assured that they had been considered for funding.

He stated that they have visited all the relevant offices in vain and are now pleading with Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga to intervene so that they can get the support to enhance their socio-economic ventures to improve their livelihoods.

Osungo warned that they would be forced to march to the governor’s office in protest should they fail to get the funds.

When contacted for comment, the Ward Administrator of East Alego ward, where the group is, Mr Collins Odanga admitted that the youths have not yet received the support but assured that they will get the items within a couple of weeks.

He asked them to exercise patience, noting that they have had procurement challenges in the county.
