We will continue blowing whistles, CORD MPs say

A section of Coalitions for Reforms and Democracy(CORD) legislators have vowed to continue pushing the Jubilee government to ensure it improves on service delivery to Kenyans.

Led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and Homa bay county Women representative Gladys Wanga, the leaders said that Kenyans have suffered a lot since the Jubilee government came into power, hence the need for a proper scrutiny and monitoring.

The leaders threatened to storm Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)’s offices at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, next week, to demand for its disbandment. The leaders said they would take this action to ensure new commissioners are appointed, and electoral reforms conducted.

The beginning of firimbi activism

Wandayi said what happened in the parliament during the State of Nation address is nothing but just the beginning of firimbi activism.

The legislator said for the country to achieve meaningful positive change all Kenyans of goodwill must be prepared to sacrifice.

Wandayi said that he would soon pitch camp at IEBC’s Anniversary Towers office, adding that he did not trust the current electoral body with the 2017 polld.

“We are not going to go to another General Election with the IEBC as it is currently constituted,” said Wanga.

Supporting Wandayi, Wanga said they are going to take the filimbi activism to the electoral body’s offices, stating that the whistle-blowing would be conducted for all rotten government bodies.  She added that they will continue with the filimbi activism until Jubilee explains how they spent Eurobond cash.

Meanwhile, Siaya Senator James Orengo and Nyando MP Fred Outa have condemned National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi, for being biased and favoring Jubilee MPS in parliament.

Outa said they will mobilize all Kenyans to buy firimbis to wake up all the ‘sleeping’ Jubilee leaders, so that they can get up and steer the country in the right direction.

Outa added that since the Chicken-gate scandal, the electoral body has been tainted by numerous corruption allegations and as such it could not be trusted with the 2017 polls.

The legislators were speaking at a fundraiser in Ugunja, Siaya County.

Wanga and Wandayi were among the seven CORD legislators that were kicked out of Parliament after they disrupted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation Address on March 31st.

The nation watched in disbelief as lawmakers, in what seemed to be a well-choreographed occurrence, interrupted the President’s speech repeatedly.

The President was forced to stop and let the Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, take over and control the August House.

Later, Wandayi defended his actions saying he could not sit and listen to President Kenyatta’s ‘public relations gimmick’, adding that Kenyans were tired of empty rhetoric.

“The country is annoyed. I cannot allow myself to listen to such a speech. Kenyans are tired of PR, they want action,” he said.
