We will deal with bandits ruthlessly  DP William Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, January 28 put on notice cattle rustlers along the Pokot-Turkana border saying that the government will take stern action against them.

The DP, who is on his second day tour to Turkana County in the ongoing voter mobilization drive, condemned the rising insecurity caused by cattle rustling terming the acts as retrogressive.

While calling cattle rustling as a thing of the past, Ruto, who was speaking in Lokitaung, said that they have already agreed with local leaders led by Turkana South MP, James Lomenen, to deal with the menace.

The DP announced the government’s plan through the Kerio Valley Development Authority to use Turkwel River to irrigate more than 70,000 acres to enable locals embrace agriculture that will offer an alternative to banditry.

The same project will at the same time be used to produce megawatts.

Ruto who has been traversing the country also urged the residents to ensure the register as voters ahead of the August 8 polls.
