We will not sign performance contracts KUPPET

Kisumu County’s Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is opposed to the call by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to have them sign performance contracts.

The union said TSC must not over step its mandate by always exploiting teachers in their work through imposing some dubious mechanisms in their service delivery.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu today, the county chairman for KUPPET Zablon Awange said they will not sign those performance contracts no matter what.

Awange says as a union they will not succumb to the threats by TSC all the times despite their obvious and prudent roles to the learners in this country.

He says they will speak in one voice and will ensure none of their members signs those “unnecessarily” contracts come next.

Awange says as teachers they’ve always utilized their internal ways of gauging their performances and TSC must be realistic and stop frustrating them all the times.

He says they might end up in the streets and defend their rights as teachers immediately after schools re-open in case they will be forced to sign those contractors.

Awange says signing of the contractors will not an inch improve performances in schools but will instead weaken the current performances.

This comes at a time when schools are set for official re-opening early next year with parents optimistic that all will be well in schools.
