Well boycott polls if IEBCs vote tally appeal is successful NASA

The Raila Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) has once more vowed to sit out the August 8 General Election if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) succeeds in its bid to overturn a ruling on the tallying of presidential poll results.

The High Court on April 4, 2017 ruled that presidential election results announced at the polling station and constituency levels will be final – a directive that the poll body wants reversed.

Speaking as the Opposition raided President Uhuru Kenyatta’s perceived stronghold in his first public rally after being crowed NASA flag bearer, Raila reiterated the Opposition’s stance, accusing Jubilee of influencing IEBC’s move.

“We will not allow the ruling to be changed. We know that it is Jubilee who has gone to court in the name of IEBC so that they can be able to manipulate results to their favour,” said NASA flag bearer, Raila Odinga.

Speaking to a mammoth audience at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru County, Raila said that the Opposition had a 10 million strong voter base – a number that he said NASA would rally to send Uhuru home come August 8.

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto blamed the Jubilee Administration for the high cost of living in the country, saying that Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto have failed to actualise their campaign promises.

He further accused Jubilee of tribalism, saying that Kenyans would only enjoy equitable distribution of wealth once Jubilee is out of power.

“We want to see into it that tribalism is a forgone issue here in Nakuru. The only way to kill tribalism is for you, Kenyans, to send Jubilee home, come August 8. Kenyan resources should be distributed evenly all over the country and not in two regions only,” said NASA Co-principal and Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto.

On his part, Kisumu Senator-James Orengo ridiculed the Uhuru-Kenyatta led administration for failing to control the prices of basic commodities like maize flour and sugar, saying that it is incompetence on the part of government.

“Uhuru is boasting around that he is the President of Kenya, yet he has failed on a simple task of regulating maize flour prices. The common ‘mwananchi’ is suffering at the hands of a failed government,” said Orengo.

These remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with skyrocketing commodity prices – a situation that Jubilee has said it will tackled through subsidised imports.

Speaking in Western Kenya Suday, DP Ruto promised Kenyans that Jubilee will see to it that the prices off food commodities are lowered.

This comes even as a section of ODM-allied MPs question the Government’s handling of the maize imports, noting that importers delivered maize just two days after Treasury passed a bill zero-rating the food imports.
