We’ll form unit to tackle port corruption- Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta says his government will form a special security unit chaired by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett to deal with increasing cases of corruption at the port of Mombasa.

President Uhuru revealed that the unit will also escort cargo destined to neighboring countries to border points to stamp out theft of cargo.

He confirmed that he has already directed IG Boinnet to form an independent unit to end smuggling of illicit drugs and eradicate theft of containers at the port.

Speaking at the port of Mombasa during the commission of phase one of second container terminal, President Kenyatta accused security agencies, KRA ,KEBS ,KPA and some business operators  of allegedly working together to divert transit cargo at the port –  a matter he said will not be accepted.

On the other hand President Uhuru Kenyattta and his deputy William Ruto urged Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho to stop playing politics with issues of development and instead work closely with the National government for the interest of the coastal people.
