We’ll keep participating in church harambees – Murkomen

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has openly rejected the call by religious leaders to avoid participating in harambees in Christian churches.

Speaking at a church service on 13th November in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, Murkomen said they will not be stopped from participating in the church harambees.

“No one will separate us from the pulpit because it is the second home to some of us. We will not be stopped from participating in church harambees,” said Murkomen.

His statement a week after Catholic Bishop Paul Kariuki banned politicians from engaging in church harambees saying that the common practice was divisive.

He argued that allowing politicians to participate in church harambees was a form on bribing voters who will feel indebted to the politicians for having helped them build the church or raise funds for whatever they needed.

Elsewhere Bomet County senator Wilfred Lessan has urged his county boss, Isaac Ruto, to record a statement with the police following last week’s incident where he was injured by a stray gas canister on his face.

The Bomet Governor claims he was forced to fly to South Africa, to receive treatment.
