Well strip to support Waiguru, male MCAs say

Embu Majority Leader Andrew Musakwa has vowed to lead male Ward Representatives in stripping to support embattled Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Musakwa said that if their female counterparts make good their threat to strip, they will follow suite in solidarity with the CS, who is under pressure to resign following allegations of corruption at the National Youth Service (NYS).

The majority leader said a nude protest would be a bold and revolutionary way for leaders to express their displeasure with the constant attacks on Waiguru.

He challenged female MCAs to quickly confirm if they will proceed with their threat to strip to give their male counterparts time to muster enough courage to join them.

Musakwa, however, said the move called for absolute seriousness, dedication and personal sacrifice due to the weight of the decision at hand.

He reiterated his support for female MCAs who have threatened to march to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Harambee House office and later to Parliament Buildings naked if Waiguru is sacked adding that it would be irresponsible for male MCAs not to act on the matter.

Musakwa was speaking on the floor of the County Assembly chambers in reaction to a question by Kagaari South MCA Robert Ireri on whether the female MCAs will make good on their threat.

Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Swaleh allowed the Ward Reps to debate on the matter saying this was an issue of grave concern that had turned the glare of the media to Embu County.

He said leaders must learn to weigh their words or take full responsibility for any utterances they make.

The Assembly burst into laughter when Muminji MCA Newton Kariuki ridiculed the MCA for coming up with the idea terming the move as extreme.

In his comical pronouncement, Kariuki stated that he would only remove his shirt and maintain his trousers if he was to take part in a nude protest.

The female MCAs were, however, quick to disown the proposed nude protest, saying they did not mean to actually go naked on the streets.

They said they had been misquoted and blamed the media for blowing the joke out of proportion.

The MCAs revealed that they had been humiliation by the reports blaming one of the members for coming up with the idea.

On her part, nominated MCA Shunem Ngira maintained that she would ferry naked Embu women to Nairobi if Waiguru is fired, though adding that it was his personal decision and not a representation of the whole House.
