We’re still out of the election, NASA tells foreign envoys

National Super Alliance have maintained their stand that they do not recognise the October 26 election and will not be part of it.

This was after the alliance held a meeting with a section of Western diplomats – US, UK, EU, Norway and Denmark – where they focused on the current political situation in the country in the lead up to October 26 presidential election.

“The elections, scheduled for Thursday, 26th October, do not meet the conditions deduced from the Supreme Court ruling and our subsequent irreducible minimums,” said NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi. “Three days to the election, there is nothing that can change in the electoral infrastructure and our position is final that we do not recognise the election and we shall not participate in it because it doesn’t serve the country’s interest.”

During the meeting the opposition insisted that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is not ready to conduct a free, fair and credible elections, sighting commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe’s resignation from the commission.

The opposition added that if the electoral commission is not confident of conducting a credible poll, the election is “bound to be a sham.”
