West Pokot Governor Lonyangapuo grilled at EACC over deputys salary

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo was on Tuesday grilled at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices in Eldoret.

A statement from EACC said the Governor was being questioned over claims that his deputy Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang is still earning a salary from the county illegally.

“EACC quizzes Governor of West Pokot County over allegations that his Deputy Governor, Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang has a full-time job in a foreign country and yet continues to be salaried by the County Government for no services rendered. Investigations on the same ongoing,” EACC said on Twitter.

Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang, who works as a neurosurgeon in Texas, left the country immediately he was sworn in after the August 2017 elections.

The absentee deputy governor also doubles up as the Health County Executive committee member.

In May, a section of West Pokot leaders called for the immediate sacking of Dr. Atudonyang

“He must relinquish the position if he can’t stay in Kenya and work for the Pokot. We have many challenges due to poor leadership .We have seen many referrals to Eldoret and shortage of drugs,” Ezekiel Pyegoh, chairman of the Independent Pokot Leaders Forum (IPLF) said.
