Western leaders to ditch Jubilee
Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and a section of Western Kenya lawmakers backing the Jubilee Party have pledged to support the opposition outfit NASA if one of their own – either Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula or Amani National Congress’ Musalia Mudavadi- is unveiled as the presidential candidate.
The leaders claimed it was obvious that ODM leader Raila Odinga would be the coalition’s flag bearer, and was taking Wetangula and Mudavadi for a ride.
The leaders, while addressing a public rally in Kanduyi constituency, said it would be an uphill task for NASA to end President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reign, terming the opposition coalition a divided house.
But the governor and the two lawmakers did not have it easy in Kanduyi, with a section of the crowd booing them.
The president and his deputy have been making forays in western, Kisii and Coast regions, dangling goodies and poaching leaders, in a bid to woo the electorate and better their August 8th chances.
NASA leaders have, however, termed the Kenyatta-Ruto charm offensive a waste of time, even as they ring fence their traditional vote baskets.
The country still remains anxious to see who, among the NASA co-principals; Raila Odinga (ODM), Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford-Kenya) would carry their presidential candidate as the August 8 polls draws closer.
The 12-member steering committee mandated to choose the presidential candidate for the opposition coalition remains mum as the whole debate rages.
