Wetangula asks Raila to act as kingmaker

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has called on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to take up the kingmaker’s role in CORD to ensure a win in the 2017 elections.

Speaking in Narok after officially opening Ford Kenya office, Wetangula said that, having made several attempts at the presidency and failed, Raila should support a different person to ensure a win for the coalition.

“I have told Raila clearly that it is time to support someone else because he has made several attempts at the presidency and failed,” he said.

“Raila is our elder and we respect him but we want him to be the kingmaker. When we win the elections, he will have a special place in the CORD government.”

He said that Raila was still a member of Ford Kenya since he had not formally resigned from the part after going to Parliament in 1993 on a Ford Kenya ticket.

Similar calls were made by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at a rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa.

Kalonzo said that he had sacrificed a lot for CORD and should be rewarded by the coalition’s presidential ticket.

ODM leaders have however insisted that Raila Odinga is the man to watch saying he has the support to dislodge Jubilee from power.

Speaking in Migori on Sunday, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed called on CORD to support Raila’s presidential bid saying the ODM leader’s name must be on the ballot paper.

He said that as CORD they would not be divided, noting that they have resolved to hold together and push forward to ensure Jubilee does not get another term.

Wetangula further urged the Jubilee Government to fully implement the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report to ensure resolution to cases of land injustices against the Maasai community,
