Wetangula hopeful of flying CORD’s flag in 2017 polls

Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetang’ula has exuded confidence that he will be nominated as the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) flag bearer in the next year’s General Elections.

Wetangula said that his confidence was boosted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) decision not to de-register him as a voter.

Speaking during a thanks giving rally in Kitale, Wetang’ula said the IEBC de-registration threat  has given him more political prowess saying he is optimistic of receiving backing from his co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga for the top seat.

The Ford Kenya leader, however, challenged CORD supporters to turn out in large numbers and participate in the oncoming voter registration to strengthen the coalition in the 2017 polls.

Wetang’ula also took a swipe at the Jubilee administration for allegedly entertaining corruption and tribalism that he said has hampered the country’s development agenda.

Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu said leaders from the Luhya community who hoped that Wetangula would be de-registered as a voter by IEBC are now shameful.

Wetangula was facing a possible de-registration as a voter by IEBC following claims of electoral malpractices including voter bribery during the Bungoma Senatorial by-elections.

He was, however, cleared with the electoral body saying that he had not been prosecuted in a court of law and therefore technically impossible to de-register him.
