Wetangula’s Presidential bid launch in limbo

Wetangula’s Presidential bid launch in limbo

Fresh controversy has erupted over the venue to host the CORD co-principal Moses Wetangula’s presidential bid launch.

The controversy coming barely days after CORD leader Raila Odinga brokered a deal between Wetangula and the Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who doubles up as ODM vice chairperson.

The acrimony threatening to throw Wetangula’s bid launch in limbo having booked and paid a deposit of 100,000 shillings to host the event at the historic Masinde Muliro Gardens, the Kakamega County Government now says it is ready to refund the deposit, directing Ford Kenya to host Wetangula’s presidential bid launch at a school play ground.

The Wetangula presidential bid launch has brought to the fore mistrust and misgivings within the CORD coalition.

The fresh twists pits CORD affiliate parties ODM against Ford Kenya both enjoying control of different parts of the Western Kenya bloc.

Reports indicate that Ford Kenya wants to be the bonafide hosts of the event in the Kakamega Governor’s home turf and only have ODM and Wiper party leaders as invitees to the event.

On the flipside, the Kakamega Governor wants to be the host of the event given that it is taking place in his county but Ford Kenya is concerned that Wetangula’s presidential bid launch might be hijacked by ODM to salvage the situation.

Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu has initiated talks with the Kakamega Governor to have the event go ahead as planned.
