What Uhuru, Raila discussed at Harambee House

President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga have announced the formation of a Unity Office as a way forward in the new charter aimed at uniting the country.

In an agreement signed at Harambee House earlier on, the two leaders further appointed Amb. Martin Kimani and Paul Mwangi to head the office whose mandate is to spearhead the implementation of their shared objectives.

Signed by Kenyatta and Odinga, the two leaders said they were standing together to urge every Kenyan, every political leader and formation to compete without using ethnic profiling or by promoting disdain for any group.

Among the objectives that are now expected to be core in the programme roll out include; ethnic antagonism, devolution, inclusivity corruption and divisive elections.

Ethnic antagonism and Competition

Here, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga pledged to urge every Kenyan, political leader and formation to compete without ethnic profiling or by promoting disdain for any group further emphasizing that the sins of individuals should not be visited on groups.

Inclusivity

The two leaders committed to fight hard hard for inclusivity and make sure in an accountable and impactful way, public institutions work to deliver to all Kenyans at the national and county level and that all Kenyans are served equally no matter who leads them.

Devolution

Kenyatta and Odinga promised to work to bring all the counties together regardless of the political affiliation, ensure counties deliver to the people and hold county governments accountable to the people.

Divisive Elections

The leaders committed to ensure that the country holds elections that are not marred by mistrust and conflict. The two promised to hold competitive and constructive elections.

Corruption

The duo promised to support efforts to support whistle blowing from all Kenyans further urging all citizens to report the vice loudly.

They further committed to ensure that political affiliation shall not be used to shield those found to be corrupt.
