President Uhuru Kenyatta has sought to highlight his achievements in the three and a half years that he has been in office.

Addressing Jubilee Party National Governing Council on Friday, President Kenyatta said that unlike past regimes, his administration has done a lot to improve the lives of Kenyans and ensure development projects are initiated even in the remotest of places.

One of the accomplishments, pointed out in his speech was the improvement in the country’s global ranking in ease of doing business by flexing once-strict regulations that had been in place during past governments.

“When Jubilee took over, we had Bills in Parliament from as far as 1978. Through our numbers in the National Assembly and Senate we have been able to pass most of those Bills including the Company and Insolvency Acts with the country being ranked 92 from 113 in ease of doing business.”

“We have also increased money for Uwezo Fund and bursaries and delegated the responsibility to MPs to disburse the money in their constituencies to ensure it reached where it is needed most,” said President Kenyatta.

He further noted that allocations for Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been increased from Ksh40 million to approximately Ksh100 million under the Jubilee government, with orphans, widows and people living with disability also receiving financial support from the government.

On electricity, President Kenyatta said that his government had increased inject 1000MW into the national grid with plans to launch the largest wind firm in Africa underway in Marsabit that would see an additional 40 MW injected into the national grid.

President Kenyatta acclaimed his government’s efforts to improve education in the county, saying they have ensured that children in rural areas are not left out in the digitisation of the education curriculum by providing them with tablets.

He further stated that the number of households connected to electricity has increased to 5.2 million from 2.3 million, with the project stretching to semi-permanent houses in rural areas.

“Businesses in Kibera can now operate up to late at night because there is electricity and security in the area,” said President Kenyatta.

“Over 3 million title deeds have also been distributed to Kenyans in different parts of the country during my tenure as president, an improvement from the past regime where less than Ksh1 million deeds were distributed,” stated the Head of State.

The president also spoke about the benefits of the Huduma Centre project, rolled out under the Ministry of Devolution, saying the centres have ensured effective delivery of essential services in the grassroots.

He also noted that the Standard Gauge Railways had been constructed and free maternity service introduced during the Jubilee administration, with parents being spared from paying examination fees to ensure costless transition from one level of education to the other.

The Jubilee Party leader added that: “For the first time in the history of Kenya, our CS Amina Mohamed is contesting for the African Union chairperson position and we will lobby for her to get the position.”

He challenged anyone who thinks he has not delivered on his mandate to publicly raise the issue, saying he is ready to defend his record as president.

Mr Kenyatta further called on Kenyans to embrace politics of substance and shun leaders who are out to divide the county along tribal lines.

President Kenyatta’s speech was obliquely targeting opposition coalition CORD leaders who have accused him of reneging on his promises and abhorring corruption to the detriment of Kenyans.

Uhuru said that reports of corruption in government, emanating from the CORD camp, were unfounded, accusing opposition coalition leader Raila Odinga of raising false alarm to gain political mileage.
