Why Kalonzo was not named NASA flag bearer Wiper Candidate

Ten days after National Super Alliance (NASA) unveiled the August 8 lineup where Raila Odinga was crowned as the Opposition coalition’s presidential candidate, a Wiper leader has come forward to explain why fellow frontrunner Kalonzo Musyoka was looked over.

Malindi Parliamentary candidate Rashid Odhiambo says that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was not selected as the Opposition’s top man because of Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) strength in Parliament.

Addressing party members in Malindi on Sunday, Odhiambo explained that ODM had more elected legislators that Wiper; therefore their candidate had to fly NASA’s flag come August 8.

“Our party leader lost on the ticket because he lacked enough soldiers to raise his stake compared to Raila who has more than 90 MPs and a host of senators,” he said.

Odhiambo urged party members to ensure that they mobilise resources and voters to ensure that Wiper elects more leaders, arguing that this would increase their bargaining power in the future.

ODM has a total of 93 elected members, while Wiper has 21 members in the National Assembly. The elected members include constituency representatives and county women representatives.
