Why Ochilo Ayacko turned down Uhuru’s ambassadorial offer

Former Minister Dr. Ochilo Ayacko has said he declined the ambassadorial nomination because he wants to focus on his political career.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi on Saturday, Dr.Ayacko said he is more interested in serving the people of Migori and Kenya as whole in a political capacity.

“If I take up the ambassadorial position it will not only limit the number of Kenyans I will serve but also limit what I hope to achieve for my people,” he said.

On Friday, Acting State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena announced Dr. Ayacko as one of the President’s nominees for an ambassadorial post.

However, the former minister said his name was later expunged from the list after he requested the Head of State to replace him.

According to Dr. Ayacko, working in a foreign country would be a disadvantage both to him and the electorates who “have trust and confidence in his leadership.”

Dr. Ayacko alluded to a political clout that he says is worth much more when you serve as a leader in your own country.

He however noted his appreciation for having been recommended as an ambassador.
