Wife Prepares Mock Grave for Husband, Sets House on Fire

The man, Evanson Karenju, said he has lost the house and property worth Sh600,000 in the fire.

Before setting the house on fire, Virginia Njoki, 45, had prepared a mock grave inside the kitchen at the fireplace without the husband’s knowledge.

The mock grave had Sukumawiki planted around it, a cross made of pieces of firewood, knitting thread as a fence and sprinkles of flour around it.

Karenju said that his wife, whose whereabouts are still unknown, burnt down the house after he quizzed her on where she spent the night on Sunday.

Furious villagers vowed to expel the woman from the village if she comes back, saying what she did was a bad omen.
