Wife’s phone places her at murder scene of slain Kiru principal: DCI

An investigative officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has placed the wife of slain Kiru Principal Solomon Mwangi at the murder scene.

Clement Mwangi told the court that there had been constant communication between Jane Muthoni, her co-accused and the deceased before and after the murder.

Mobile phone data analysis was presented in court on Thursday implicating Muthoni, Isaac Ng’anga and Joseph Kariuki.

Kariuki is currently a State witness in the case and his statement corroborated with the phone data from the DCI.

He had been sentenced to one year to manslaughter after pleading guilty in March 2017.

Kariuki expressed remorse to the court claiming that his actions were motivated by the money he was offered by the wife to the deceased: Muthoni.

The phone data also indicated that on November 6, 2016, Muthoni received a text message while at Mukuri where the body was discovered, about 500 meters from the crime scene.

Muthoni, the primary suspect in the case, is a former principal at Icaciri High School.

A fourth suspect who was also discovered from the phone records and identified as Nelson Magati, is still at large .

The mention of the case has been slated for June 6 to allow for cross examination.
