Inside the abusive Miguna, Sonko political relationship

There is absolutely no love between firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko yet here we are; Sonko decided to shake the political world by nominating Miguna to be his deputy.

But then again, there are no enemies in politics though these two look like sworn mortal enemies whose paths crossed in the spiritual ream millions of years ago.

They never lack adjectives to describe each other in the negative.

Interestingly, moments after Governor Mike Sonko’s announcement, Miguna seemed to cast aspersions on the move, albeit indirectly.

He retweeted a post that said: “Populist politics. That’s what Mike Sonko just pulled in displaying Miguna Miguna ‘appointment letter’ as his new DG choice.”

“How do you scout, publicise someone whom you’ve not consulted and s/he agrees to you offer? But the drafter of that letter though!” the tweet by one Samba Kamboji reads.

The embattled lawyer is known to make most of his pronouncements on his official social media pages.

Earlier in the day, before Governor Sonko revealed his nominee, Miguna had blasted him for allegedly trying to block a National Super Alliance (NASA) rally a year ago.

During the 2017 Nairobi Gubernatorial debate, the self-declared general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who also ran for Governor, was highly critical of his rivals.

At the time, Miguna’s campaign for the position focused on calling out alleged cartels, who he claimed were behind corruption scandals dogging the capital city.

He accused Sonko and his predecessor Dr. Evans Kidero of being linked to the said cartels.

On Wednesday, a video clip of Miguna calling out the two leaders, began doing rounds on social media with some saying “the internet never forgets.”

In 2016, Mike Sonko said Miguna Miguna was suffering from a “serious mental disorder.” Sonko made the remarks on Facebook when a supporter posed a question to him about Miguna’s claims that the former Senator engages in illegal drug business.

Kenyans had expected another showdown after he indicated that he would be jetting back from Canada. However, this was not to be.

Miguna revealed that he had cancelled his flight citing “refusal” by the Department of Immigration to issue him with a valid Kenyan passport.

The government has maintained its stance that the lawyer is no longer a Kenyan citizen.
