William Ruto, Gideon Mungaro slam Amason Kingi over missing Kilifi County cash

A section of Jubilee Party allied coastal MPs have slammed Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, saying that Kingi cannot accuse the Government of not being accountable yet he has failed to address graft issues in his own county.

The MPs – led by Kilifi North legislator Gideon Mungaro – asked Kingi to first address the issue of missing funds in the county before pointing fingers at the Uhuru-led government.

Speaking at Rabai grounds as he welcomed Deputy President William Ruto to the region, Mungaro put Kingi to task over the alleged loss of billions in the county.

“Instead of Governor Kingi demanding accountability from the national government, he should also tell Kenyans what he has done with the billions allocated to the county,” said Mr Mungaro.

Mungaro said that the tide has turned at the coast, and this is largely due to the development projects that the Uhuru Kenyatta-led government has implemented in the region.

“When we do comparison with the previous governments which ruled Kenya for more than 50 years, it is only Jubilee that has greatly helped the coastal people barely four years in office,” said Mr Mungaro.

He urged the coastal people not to be misled by friends of the Opposition – sentiments that were echoed by Kinango MP Gonzi Rai.

“We are not going to be misled anymore to support the Opposition. This is why coastal people are now supporting Jubilee because it is committed to the transformative agenda of our people and Kenyans in general,” said Mr Rai.

On his part, Ruto said that the coast – and Kilifi County in particular – has received great support from the county government.

“Kilifi County gets the fourth largest allocation of devolved funds amounting to more than Sh9 billion every year but the people cannot see what it has done,” said the Mr Ruto.

Taking an indirect swipe at the ODM governor, Ruto question what Kingi did with the funds allocated to the county.

“Ksh.9.6 billion is money enough to change the life of all the people of Kilifi. There is no reason why the people of Kilifi should suffer,” said Ruto.

Speaking as he opened a police station at Marereni, Ruto argued that Jubilee had proved itself in the four years that they had been in power.

“We have initiated development projects in the field of energy, infrastructure, education, roads, health among other projects aimed at transforming the lives of the people,” said Mr Ruto.

He asked the coastal people to vote in Jubilee come August 8, saying that food security and infrastructural development will top Jubilee’s agenda for the county.
