Win for IEBC as court allows manual backup
The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by the National Super Alliance (NASA) to have manual backup system used by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the August 8 General Election in case the electronic system backfires.
The three Appellate Judges; Roselyne Nambuye, Martha Koome and Daniel Musinga, however, directed IEBC to scan ID Cards before resorting to manual back up in case biometric fails.
The Judges said they see no reason to overturn the High Court decision that dismissed the case by opposition.
NASA moved to court seeking to compel IEBC to use electronic system to identify voters’ and transmit results in the forthcoming General Election.
It claimed that the introduction of manual backup was a plan to rig the elections.
