Wiper defectors warned against pushing Kalonzo to ditch CORD

Three elected leaders from Machakos County have called on Wiper defectors to desist from engaging party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and instead focus on promoting Jubilee in the region.

Led by Machakos Women Representative, Dr Susan Musyoka, the leaders faulted MPs who issued ultimatums to Kalonzo to leave the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principal alone and focus on matters of their party.

On Sunday, a section of Wiper MPs including Francis Mwangangi (Yatta), Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central), Richard Makenga (Kaiti) and Michael Kisoi (Mbooni), accused Kalonzo of misleading the community saying they would not sit and watch as they are led into an “political oblivion”.

In what was dubbed The Matuu Declaration, the MPs and a section of the Kamba Clans Governing Council leaders vowed to remain in Jubilee in a bid to reap development benefits for the community.

“This goes to Kalonzo Musyoka, who purports to be the leader of the Kamba community. We need to be told the direction this community would take failure to which we shall show our people the proper direction,” Kisoi had said.

He added that it was a pity that the community was being held hostage by a single individual allegedly driven by personal interests.

“We call upon Kalonzo to call all leaders in Muungano and even CCU to bring our heads together and decide the direction we should take as a community,” added Kisoi.

These sentiments did not auger well with Dr Susan, who said it was preposterous for the MPs to summon Kalonzo Musyoka, stating that the Wiper leader cannot be subjected to summons and ultimatums.

The legislator added that the threats will not change Kalonzo’s stand adding that the party leader will remain in Wiper and CORD and continue with the push to defeat Jubilee in 2017.

In a quick rejoinder, Matungulu MP, Stephen Mule, said the Yatta team was formed by traitors of Kamba community and as elected leaders they will not accept Kalonzo to be intimidated by such calls.

Mule added that Kalonzo is mature and experienced politically and should not be intimidated and moved by such calls adding that after defecting to Jubilee, the MPs should desist from engaging in CORD affairs.

Machakos Deputy Governor, Bernard Kiala, added that Wiper was firm adding that they fully support party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Stephen Mule and Bernard Kiala were speaking in Matungulu while Dr Susan Musyoka spoke in Machakos town.
