In Summary

  • According to him, it was not a unity meeting as it did not include key Kamba people such as religious, youth and women leaders.
  • Mr. Mutua, who is also the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, said the meeting was about one individual.
  • This comes after Mr. Musyoka held a meeting to rally Kamba leaders behind him ahead of the 2022 elections.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has dismissed a meeting held by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying it was not inclusive.

Dr. Mutua, who is also the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, said the meeting was a party affair and could not achieve the alleged unity of purpose for Ukambani.

“There was no discussion on development or the economic welfare of 4 million Kambas in this country. It was all about a certain party and a certain individual,” he said.

This comes after Mr. Musyoka held a meeting at Kiamba Primary School in Komarock, Machakos on Monday, to rally Kamba leaders behind him ahead of the 2022 elections.

The event, dubbed “2018 Kamba Unity Declaration Accord” was attended by Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Senator Mutula Kilonzo, ex-Senator Johston Muthama among others.

However according to Dr. Mutua, it was not a unity meeting as it did not include key Kamba leaders.

“Such a meeting should be called by neutral people such as religious leaders; elders; youth and women leaders, so that we come together under neutrality to discuss the plight of our people,” he said.

The Governor said it was a tragedy that African leaders cling to power until they are forced out.
