Without unity, we cannot be free President Kenyatta

Leaders must lead the effort of healing and reconciling the country, this is according to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking when he officially launched the Jubilee Party at Kasarani Stadium, the President said that only unity gives a firm foundation to a country.

“Today, we must say that we cannot choose the path of division. We ask conflicting communities to come together in the path of conciliation. Without unity, we cannot be free. That is a lesson we have learnt and one we shall never forget,” stated the President.

The Head of State noted that there are many political leaders who still hope to find opportunity in division.

“Time and time again, they have chosen violence and destruction and each and every time, it is the Kenyans that have suffered. You have had your chance and failed time and time again. Your time is done. Our generation has learnt from their mistakes. We cannot go back, we will not go back. We want to succeed as a community, nation and individual, only unity provides this success.”

President Kenyatta termed the Jubilee Party as a party that welcomes every Kenyan.

“Our party will embrace the whole country and standing as one, we shall build this country. We want every Kenyan to say this Party is their home. This party is not about Kenyatta or Ruto. This party is about being custodians of our country, long-term. Jubilee is about celebrating our diversity.”

The President noted that the yearning for unity is what inspired a new constitution, yet politics of division and ethnic violence led to misfortune.

“2008 brought us to our darkest moment. Disunity along ethnic lines almost destroyed this country. Without unity, we cannot be free. That is a lesson we have learnt and one we shall never forget,” stated President Kenyatta.

He lauded the Jubilee as the party of ‘empathy and solidarity’ noting that Kenya us a story of triumph over tribulations.

“We are building a government that is an aid to the innovator and the investor. Jubilee believes in the power of every individual Kenyan.”

Kenyatta noted that he has worked hard to position Kenya at the heart of conflict resolution and stabilization in the region.

“In the next five years, Kenya will be known as a champion of Africa’s interests.”

The Head of State said he looks forward to meet his political opponents where they can compete in a peaceful environment.

“I assure my opponents that they will be given full security and freedom to express themselves,” he said.
