Woman, 19, in court for killing husband

A 19-year-old woman has been arraigned in a Nairobi court on suspicion of killing her husband.

Bridgit Kemuma Nambane is accused of causing the death of Edward Magwaro after stabbing him in the chest on December 10 at Reuben Slums Industrial Area, Nairobi following a domestic dispute.

She denied a charge of manslaughter before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

Nambane is alleged to have inflicted the fatal wound on her husband following a struggle at their home after he came home drunk and asked for food. It is said that Nambane, a mother of one, prepared the meal before returning to tend to her baby.

A confrontation ensued when Magwaro accused his wife of neglect and demanded she sit with him and watch him eat. The deceased then threatened to kill his 19-year old wife with a knife.

Nambane then overpowered Magwaro, snatched the knife, thrusting it into his chest. On being rushed to a hospital in Athi River, he succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment.

The court, while hearing the accused’s plea, ordered for a pre-bail report before it considers whether to grant release on bond/bail terms.

The case will be mentioned on January 11, 2018.
