Woman, 25, dies after electricity pole falls on her head

A 25-year-old woman died after an electricity pole fell on her head at Nyilima Trading Center in Omia Malo sub-location, Rarieda sub-county Tuesday evening.

Mercy Apiyo died at the nearby Ong’ielo health center where she was rushed after the electricity pole hit and seriously injured her on the head.

According to the acting chief of East Asembo location Mr Fred Omino, the woman was walking along the road when the pole that has been hanging loosely fell on her.

He revealed that pole fell down after a Lwanda Kotieno bound bus that was carrying chairs on its top carrier pulled an electric line and uprooted the pole, hitting the woman instantly.

The administrator told Radio Ramogi that traders at the trading center swiftly came to Apiyo’s rescue and rushed her to the Ong’ielo health center where she died while undergoing treatment.

Mr Omino, who confirmed the incident, stated that the body of the mother of one was removed to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await a postmortem.
