Migori: Woman, 26, gets 10-year jail term for sexually assaulting 7-year-old boy

A 26-year-old woman was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in prison after she was found guilty of molesting a seven-year-old boy at Mbwa Kali Estate in Rongo, Migori County.

While delivering his ruling, Rongo Resident Magistrate Charles Kamau said the accused, Terry Anne Usenge, was found guilty of the sexual offence after the court established that she molested the minor in her kiosk within Rongo town on September 13, 2018.

The court heard that the woman was  found inappropriately touching the minor by local residents, who threatened to lynch her before she was rescued by police.

Witnesses said her actions suggested she was planning to engage the boy in a sexual activity.

The accused was given 14 days to appeal the court decision.

This comes after Migori High Court Judge Antony Murima, speaking last week during the celebration marking 16 Days of Gender Based Violence (GBV) Activism, said the courts will expedite cases related to GBV including defilement, sodomy and other kinds of molestation.
